A presentation about the Space Camp pilot that has been run at Shrubland Street Primary School in Leamington Spa. The project aims to engage young children aged 5-11 with Astronomy and Space Science through low cost sustainable residential experiences. Children have learnt to use binoculars and telescopes to observe the night sky, met with astronomers and experts from local universities and took part in a range of practical and creative space themed activities. We have also placed a strong emphasis using Astronomy and Space Science as a context for developing skills in English and Maths.

In the extended camp 'Space Camp Max' children also participated in Mission X:Train like an Astronaut as well as a range of missions and challenges at the National Space Centre in Leicester.

With 5 camps under our belt we would be delighted to share our experiences and the measured impact of the project. Phase 2 of this project is to inspire and support as many primary schools across the country as possible to run the programme in their own settings. Presenting at the NAS would be an excellent opportunity to do this.
