Bringing space to the classroom

This year NAM has a significant first: a special educator training day entitled "Bringing Space to the classroom".

The RAS understand the importance of engaging with teachers, technicians and educators and we admire how they do this so well – and we would be so excited if they would join us. The educator training session is scheduled for Weds 8 July 2015 at Venue Cymru in Llandudno, Wales.

The training day is a full-day event being curated by Dr Stacey Habergham (National Schools Observatory & Liverpool John Moores University) and Dr Sheila Kanani (Royal Astronomical Society). We expect an audience of about 50 in the session. The day will cover all aspects of teaching, from primary school through to sixth form/Key Stage 5, laboratory techniques and demonstrations with specialised equipment and resources. Our goal is to bring together different educator groups to give talks that are idea-focused, and on a wide range of training subjects, to foster networks, learning, inspiration and wonder – and provoke conversations that matter.

There will also be a teacher pack to take away on the day from the session full of resources.

 

Free registration for teachers

We understand how difficult it can be for teachers to find the time to be able to attend an out of school event like NAM. We are therefore pleased to announced that there will be bursaries available to allow teachers to register for the relevant day of the conference for free, subject to eligibility and availability. The bursaries are offered by the National Schools Observatory, The Ogden Trust and ESERO-UK, and will cover the cost of registration and travel expenses up to £50. However, no shows on the day will be expected to cover the £50 fee, by an invoice to your school.
