AstroCymru is funded by the National Science Academy of the Welsh Assembly Government, and provides primary and secondary students, and the general public, with subsidised 3D STEM shows, lectures and workshops, based around astronomy and space science. The project uses innovative resources to engage learners with a range of STEM topics, and trains teachers to use them in their classroom. These include 3D shows (3D Space) delivered to large audiences (up to 400 at a time), small “hands-on” workshops where students interact with real meteorites and dinosaur fossils (Down2Earth), and remote-control of research-grade telescopes around the globe (Faulkes Telescope Project). AstroCymru inspires learners to study STEM by engaging them with “big science”, utilising state-of-the-art e-learning resources and 3D shows about the solar system, space telescopes and astronauts. In the first year of operations, it reached over 30,000 learners across Wales, and has now been funded for an additional 3 years by the NSA.
