Abstract

Solar wind initiation, evolution, and interplanetary consequences
Observations of the solar wind and solar activity and its impact
Louise Harra
UCL-MSSL
This review talk will cover observations of the solar wind and solar activity, beginning at the source on the Sun, and then tracking through to the Earth. The challenges and limitations of current observations will be described. Future space missions will be described that will make a big impact in transforming our understanding of predicting the impact of the Sun’s activity on the Earth’s environment. These will include the Solar Orbiter and Solar Probe Plus missions.
